The Gujarat government has decided to give a 10% reservation for the economically backward in the general category which includes the Patel / Patidars community. It was expected and BJP government in Gujrat must be congratulated for giving reservation for the economically backward but avoiding Popular caste factor. It will be implemented by an ordinance, which will give reservation in state educational institutions and government jobs for families whose income is below 6 lakh rupees a year. This decision come in the backdrop of protests by Patidars in the state, who have been agitating for OBC status.
Chief minister Anandiben Patel and the state bjp president Vijay Rupani said that, “after meeting with party national President Amit Shah today the party and the government has decided to announce 10% EBC reservation Ordinance on May 1st on the Gujarat foundation day. Benefit of this reservation will be in addition to SC/ST and OBC reservation so there will be no effect on the present reservation system. This will be in force from the upcoming academic season itself. Children of the parents who have income upto six lakh annually will get benefit.”
It will certainly be hailed as pro-poor move by considering Anyone whose family income is below 6 lakh rupees a year can avail benefit of a 10% quota regardless of caste or community.
The role of BJP National president is prominent in bringing this welcome Move. Reservation was proposed at a Core Group meeting held in Gandhinagar, which was presided over by BJP National President Amit Shah.
Time will tell if BJP have scored higher than Their Political opponent.
