Vijayadashami also known as Dussehra or Ayudhapuja, is an important Hindu festival celebrated on the tenth day of Ashvin month according to the Hindu calendar. This day falls in the month of September or October. The day culminates a 9 day fasting period of Navratri in the Hindu culture.. “Dussehra” word is derived from Sanskrit; Dasha-hara is a form of Dashanan ravan.
The day is celebrated to commemorate the killing of Ravana by Lord Rama. The day also celebrates the killing of demon Mahishasur by Goddess Durga. Dussehra celebration spreads the message of the victory of good over sin.
Ayudha Puje or Ayudh Puja Timings, Penchang
Ayudha Puje or Ayudh Puja is an integral part of the Navratri festival , a Hindu festival which is traditionally celebrated in India. Navaratri as Ayudh Puja is celebrated mainly in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Ayudha Puja is done on Navami Tithi during Navratri. Most of the time, it falls on Maha Navami during Navratri. It is also called “Astra Puja”, the synonym for Ayudha Puja. In simple terms, it means “Worship of Implements”.
