According to world health organisation (W.H.O)  :-  Zika virus , that has been linked to thousands of birth defects in Latin America is spreading explosively . Zika virus has already been detected in 23 countries, raising extremely high level of concern.

As we know ,  Zika virus is transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes and India being the most suited country for   growth of its vector mosquitoe (Aedes mosquitoes ), is now on high Alert.

Early on Friday morning  Union health minister JP Nadda held an emergency meeting with his team of medical experts from across the country to discuss the prevention of Zika virus in India.

The meeting was called after the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Thursday announced it would be holding an emergency meeting next week to decide whether the virus outbreak should be declared an international health emergency or not, given its ‘explosive’ spread in parts of the world.

Till now  , none of the test samples screened for the virus have returned positive.

Meanwhile, Indian Medical Association (IMA) has issued an advisory, asking pregnant women to avoid traveling to countries at risk of mosquito-borne Zika virus transmission.
