Therapy Dogs For Cancer Treatment
New research has shown that therapy dogs can improve anxiety levels of pediatric cancer patients.
Researchers at the American Humane Association, led by National Director of Human Research and Therapy Amy McCullough, are in the middle of an ongoing study on how therapy dogs visits affect kids in cancer treatment.
They say that their early results show that therapy dogs actually do reduce stress and even have a stabilizing effect on patients’ blood pressure and heart rate.
“This study will be a milestone in understanding the benefits of the vital bond shared between people and animals,” McCullough said.
