Operation ‘Sankat Mochan’ begins today: IAF to airlift or evacuate 600 stranded Indians from war-torn South Sudan . It is aptly named Airlift-2 in Social Media. Minister of state for external affairs VK Singh is leading the operation, named “Sankat Mochan”.

According to the ministry, there are around 600 Indians in South Sudan, of them 450 are in Juba and nearly 150 are outside the capital.

BJP Says- “A proactive Modi government, committed to safety and security of Indians all over the world, has launched Operation #SankatMochan to evacuate more than 500 Indians affected by the civil unrest in Juba of South Sudan. Gen V.K. Singh, minister of state for external affairs is personally leading the operations.”


What is operation ‘Sankat Mochan’? 

South Sudan evacuation of Indians stuck in war torn area – to evacuate Indians from South Sudan, which has been rocked by violence that has claimed hundreds of lives. Only Indian nationals with valid Indian travel document will be allowed boarding with maximum five kg cabin baggage and no check-in pieces. Women and children will be accommodated on priority. 2 IAF’s C-17 aircraft departed for Juba to evacuate Indian nationals stranded in Sudan under operation ‘Sankat Mochan‘.
